Developing a strategy is the most difficult task an entrepreneurial team faces. Which is the right strategy for your start up? What is the business definition? What is the right business model and revenue model? As a start, should one focus on B2B or B2C? Which revenue stream should the team start with? Which approach brings higher growth sustainably? Which strategy returns higher margins? These are just some of the questions an entrepreneurial team faces.
Entrepreneurs tend to have many different ideas on how to grow. They often want to go down many different directions at the same time. A lot of the start-ups that fail often do so because they have not focused their strategy and have not decided what strategy to pursue. They are resource constrained and pursue more than they can handle. They spray themselves thin and lose it all.
Strategy means focus. It often means pursuing one thing first and branching out when resources are available and when appropriate.
Entrepreneurs should know that strategy may have to change as experience may show that it does not work. Setting a strategy requires flexibility to change it.
